Fixed wire testing is the periodic inspection and testing of a building's permanent electrical wiring. It is intended to find faults, wear and unsafe alterations before they cause harm or downtime. The tests are carried out circuit by circuit, and the results are recorded in a report that you can keep as evidence of safe maintenance.

Fixed wire testing is done circuit by circuit because a single healthy reading at the board does not prove the condition of every outgoing cable. Continuity, insulation, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and the operation of protective devices each answer a different question. Together they show whether the permanent wiring is still fit to remain in service.
